question 1)
D,E --> clearly out.. "those" refers to what..??
treatable -->adj modifies mild flue and also "lasting" --> gerun act as "adjective" modifies mild flu B,C --> out not parallel. A for parallesim
First one is A. You want the stuff after comma to modify, hence you must have 'lasting'. 'last' and 'they last' dont allow you to create the subordinate clause that it is meant to be. D and E are ridiculous..'those mild flues'..we dont want to be poetic here!
As for the second one..I think they dont have the perfect answer which would have been 'that persist' (parallel to 'that comprise'). By eliminating: B: particles is plural so persists is not allowed c: we are not talking about something that only happened in the past. d: 'they' breaks the sentence..it is not more continuous e: I was confused with this one. It seemed the best choice to me first but I realized 'are' doesnt really contribute much. persisting by itself tells us that they still persist. Also, it acts like a modifer.
Hence A..jenyang..could you please reconfirm the answer?
