C and E have different meaning. Its invention in E and use in C. In the context of the sentence invention appears to be a better choice.

IMO C.

In E, is the use of "antedated" changes the tense of the sentense from present to past? Pleas explain some one...

IMO (c)

The problem with (e) is --> antedate the invention of first alphabets [Should invention not automatically signal first alphabets, do some languages have first, second, third alphabets etc?]

I think you are listing two different things here so you need a 'and', you need a verb as well so D and E fit.

I might have picked D but as you said, E is the answer.
