D for me.

Childrens mean...ah! nothing!. Chess was originated as a children's game, not from a children's game. It's just that we adults adopted Chess as our game :)

anyway, "children's game" means "easy task"..chess is not at all easy, atleast not for me :wink:

Child and Children

childrens', childerns wrong.

Originated from is correct but that answer choice does not follow child-children convention.

The game is thought to have originated as a children's game and then later used in major newspapers to test readers knowledge. D should be correct

"childrens" is it a typo??? I took E at first cos "originate from" is well an idiom.

I believe it is E because 'originate from' is the correct idiom. I hope that
' childrens ' in the sentence is " children's ".
If the error persists, then it is D.

DJ, a stellar job. You got at the heart of what I meant. I know that 'originated from' may be controversial in E. I'll try harder to avoid those situations.

I agree with D since E has a blatant error in it. Nothing wrong with D although "originate from" is also an idiom. I cannot put my finger on the subtle difference between the two but I think both are fine and can be used interchangeably. Had I had to choose between the two, I would still have picked "originate from" as it sounds more familiar to me.
