In E, the 'weighing' acts as a modifier, modifying the previous clause. The subject of that clause is 'the length...'

Now this 'weighing' modifies not the camcorder, but the 'the length...' phrase.

Same issue in B. It ends up modifying the previous clause, instead of the camcorder.

hi guys,
I thought "claims to be" is the correct idiomatic usage in SC.
If so, shouldn't A be the correct answer?
Please correct me if I am wrong.

E is wrong comparison. The intended comparison is between digital camcorder vs handheld computer. You dont have to say "the length of which is that of a handheld computer"
as long as is correct.
"claim to be" is wrong because you are not camouflaging the digital camcorder. The company "is claiming" that it is the world's smallest

"claiming to be the world's smallest" ----> is counterfactual. claim to be X ----> it not actually X (it is Y)
D it is

We need "claims is" because the product has already been unveiled and the company is claiming something about the product.

that leaves C, D and E.

C has "it weighs" which can refer to camcorder or handheld computer.

E has modifer problems.

D is correct.

ok lets get the splits first:

1. to be vs is

2. world's smallest vs smallest in the world

3. it weights vs weighs vs and weighs

lets take the 2nd split smallest in the world is wordy and we can reject the options B and C, now we are left with A,D and E

Take the 3rd split, "it weighs" is ambiguous, not a correct use of pronoun here we can reject the option A, both weighing and weigh is correct to use

"the length of which is that" too wordy we can simply reject E and go with option D

my choice is D
