Hi All,
Could someone help me explain the rules that have been followed to arrive at the correct answer in the following wrong sentences:
1.Mastering Sanskrit is an often‐frustrating journey where a student that is too impatient is likely to become discouraged.
Ans: Mastering Sanskrit is an often-frustrating journey during which a student who is too impatient is likely to become discouraged.
2. Alexander the Great remarked that conquering foreign states couldn’t compare to the vanquishing of his enemies at home.
Ans: Alexander the Great remarked that conquering foreign states couldn’t compare to vanquishing his enemies at home.

In the second sentence you are comparing a normal gerund [conquering] to a complex gerund [the vanquishing of his enemies] and this is not correct. Simple gerunds are never parallel to complex gerunds.
The melting of the ice and the rising of the sealevel can have disastrous effects for the earth. Parallel
the melting of the ice and the rise in sea levels. Also parallel rise is an action noun.
