I agree with Shalva. "A" looks perfect.

Each of the alternative choices create an issue with parallelism. Choice A is the best option.

The overall question is basically split into 2 parts - the first part explains about a boat 5000 years ago being found out, and the second compares its advancement compared to even more older boats.

The second choice is wrong because of the usage - "THIS HAS" because the usage is unclear as to what has proved the significant advancement. Is it finding the boat? Or Is it the boat being built 5000 years ago?

The 3rd,4th and 5th choice is wrong again for the same reason mentioned above as the usage - "AND IT" or "THAT WAS" or "TO" are incorrect and unclear.

I am a starter too so please correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers. :-D

A is quite evident because of parallelism:

….wooden hull THAT is the earliest….and THAT thus represents a major…

However, why does the title of this thread say: "Absolute Phrase usage"? Where is Absolute Phrase used in this sentence and what is the relevance?
