One of the senators will lead the group to the front of the capitol.
how come in this case lead is used instead of leads. I'm a native speaker so lead does sound right but I'm curious of the rule behind this sentence. Usually when a sentence in which you have a straight "one of the noun verb," one is going to match with that verb. In this case isn't the subject one and should be leads instead of lead?

One of the senators will lead the group to the front of the capitol.
Note sure if you noticed the presence of 'will' in the above sentence. With 'will', only the base form of the verb is used. Since you are a native speaker, this would come naturally to you and you do not need to even be aware of this rule.
Without the 'will', what you've stated would be correct:
One of the senators leads the group to the front of the capitol.

So "will leads" is more of an idiomatic issue than a subject verb issue?
