Anyone have any insight when to use the clause "so as to" in sentence correction.
Ive seen it in a couple questions and am quite confused on when it is appropriate.

"So as to" is similar in meaning to "in order to" and usually used in cause-effect type of sentence. "So as to" is usually followed by a verb.
Usage,
"Ryan extended his leave so as to spend more time with the family."
can also be written as
"Ryan extended his leave in order to spend more time with the family."
Usage,
"Ryan extended his leave so as to spend more time with the family."
can also be written as
"Ryan extended his leave in order to spend more time with the family."

"so as to" is frequently exploited and is almost always incorrect, however "so [adjective] as to [verb] is acceptable.
