Hi guys, I was trying to decide if I should apply for 2+2 now or wait for more work experience. Here is my profile:
Education: biology BS at Stanford - 3.3gpa (super low I know but our major average is less than 3 and I was homeschooled in hs, should I explain?)
GMAT: 700
Work exp:
- 2 internships in big pharma (think Pfizer/GSK/Roche)
- 1 internship at NIH
- 3 years research at Stanford bio lab with 2 publications
Extracurricular:
- president of STEM club
- cofounded biology mentor club
- teach class listed in Stanford catalog with other students on undergrad research
Essay: how I decided to get MBA and why
I would appreciate any input on my areas of weakness and what I should play up. And of course what my odds are. Thanks so much!!
Hi Rosalind
- All looks good here. The Stanford name and the major in biology definitely help.
- The GPA is slightly iffy but should be ok if you can put in a strong essay and your overall story is impactful. Mentioning the average GPA in your major or your homeschooling might not really help. The homeschooling part and making it to Stanford from there may be quite interesting though, and we wager that it should be an important part of your essay.
- That said, would be great to see your essay and reasons for an MBA broadly aligned with your background so far (this may not be the case for everyone) and why you are applying for the early career MBA.
Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed. Happy to help in terms of reviewing/verifying your thought process, especially given that the deadline isn't far.
