I think the risk of increased competition in R3 exists for those who are over-represented. Imagine if other(s) with a very similar profile have already been admitted. Because that is not your case (not that many Indonesians at INSEAD) my personal opinion is that you're better off improving your overall app and applying in R3.

Regardless of your decision, good luck with your application and I hope to meet you in Fonty/Singy as well!

Hi latinoinasuit! Thanks a lot for replying.

Honestly, I doubt that I can increase significantly in GMAT score if I still need to polish my essays, all in 3 weeks.
That is why I now weight the option of deferring to R3, even though I need to accept the fact that scholarship is limited (or none at all).
However, with the mixed response from various posts that I've read about R3, I also need to consider the competition in R3.
If the competition is really increasing that much, then maybe I should just submitted what I can do in R2 anyway.
What does your research tells you about R3?

Anyway, I hope the best for your application and it would be really cool if we meet later in Fonty/Singy!

In my opinion, latinoinasuit is spot on regarding the competition.

As for your GMAT, INSEAD is more concerned with your percentiles with each of the sections. You need to be very close or past the 70th percentile in both sections. Otherwise, if they like your profile, they will ask you to take it again and reapply in another round/intake.

Hi guys,

I was torn between applying to Round 2 or Round 3 for INSEAD Jan intake.
My profile is as follow:
Indonesian Male, age 29
GMAT 650 (Q45, V34, IR7)
TOEFL 110
WE: 4 years in French MNC, 3 years in Japanese MNC (Manufacture segment - Marketing)
No experience in working/living abroad but still working with international colleagues
Education: Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering (GPA 3.5/4)
Extra curricular : martial arts - 1st place in regional championship, professional drummer, solo trek to Everest Base Camp

As you can see, my GMAT score is not very good for INSEAD, so I am planning to retake the GMAT.
However, the deadline for R2 is approaching, and I am still working for my essays.
I read many post regarding INSEAD being fair to applicants in R2 and R3, and how they all have same acceptance rate, but other posts also encourage to apply as early as possible.
Additionally, scholarship would also helps (I heard that R2 offers more scholarship) :-D

Which option would be better for me:
1. To retake GMAT, finish my essays, then submit anyway in R2
2. To concentrate on my essays without retaking GMAT then submit in R2, hopefully it is enough with my profile
3. To postpone to R3 with risk of higher competition (or is it not?)

Thanks!

All things being equal, you are better off applying in R2 than R3 but your GMAT is low and the quant is really low, so I suggest trying to retake it and applying in R3. I would rather see a R3 higher GMAT score than a R2 lower GMAT score.

Good luck!

Best,
Scott

Hi latinoinasuit, lpetroski, and PersonalMBACoach (Scott),

Thanks a lot for your insights!
I guess I'll try to increase my GMAT first then do my battle in R3. Wish me luck!
