Deciding between deferred programs. Honestly, Columbia mostly calls to me for the name / location (I'm NYC based right now, and would like to stay that way), and while I know CBS holds its own for MBB recruiting, I understand its biggest strength is recruiting into finance. Ultimately, I think finance is my least likely career path - even though I am working at BB right now, it's a technical role and I don't see myself contending seriously for PE/IM down the line.
I'm most interested in going into product management down the line at FAANG or second tier (i.e. Salesforce). Side note, I'd like the role to ideally be NY based as well (not Bay Area). I didn't major in STEM, but was a CS minor and have knowledge of programming languages. My current role is super tech heavy like SWE, but definitely is technically-involved. What would PM recruitment look like for me as a prospective CBS student?
Thanks for the advice in advance!

High-level answer: you'll be fine at CBS recruiting for PM roles - many people do it.
More in depth answer: First, the idea that CBS is only a finance school is about a decade outdated. https://www8.gsb.columbia.edu/recruiter ... _FINAL.pdf It's split almost evenly with consulting at this point. People certainly recruit for tech as well, it's not as much of a focus, but the tech business group is huge, I got an internship in tech (but chose consulting) and many of my other colleagues did as well.
So, overall, CBS has many paths to FAANG. Congrats and good luck.
