The Ross interview is by invitation. The Ross interviews are usually from 40 minutes to 60 minutes long, with a good chunk of this time being allotted for asking questions from the interviewer. So, have a set of 3-4 questions ready to ask. The interviews are mostly friendly. However, expect your interviewer to get into the depth of your behavioural stories. They do ask 3-5 behavioural questions, so be prepared with multiple stories.
INTRODUCTION: Walk me through your resume How does an MBA fit into your career goals? (know your short term, long term, plan B career goals) Why Ross? Why Now? Why not any other b-school? Why did you choose your undergraduate major? Why did you choose your current job? How do your colleagues describe you? What would be your strengths according to them? What courses will you take/ clubs will you join at Ross? How would you contribute at Ross? How will you build your network at the school? Have you spoken to any alums / current students?
CHALLENGES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Tell me about a time you went above and beyond your role Tell me about a leadership experience Tell me about a time when you led a project. Tell me about a time when you had to step outside your comfort zone. What was challenging for you? what did you learn? Tell me about a time you had to play an unpopular role in a team. Tell me about a time when you were challenged? Tell me about a time when you questioned status-quo. What change did you bring? Tell me about a time you disagreed with your team members/ supervisor.
AMBIGUITY: Tell me about a situation where you had to work on something without having any resources or prior knowledge. Tell me about a time when you started something new or unknown. Tell me about a time when the scope of your work changed suddenly Tell me about a situation where you had to learn very quickly/ adapt to a new situation.
FEEDBACK/ FAILURE: Tell me about a time when you received tough feedback. Tell me about a time when you made a mistake. What did you learn from it? Tell me when your project timeline was delayed and how did you handle it? Tell me about a time you failed. What did you learn from your greatest failure?
COACHING/ MENTORSHIP: Tell me about a time you coached or mentored someone. Tell me about a time you went above and beyond to help someone. How would you guide a junior? Tell me about a time when you motivated a non-performing colleague
LEADERSHIP STYLE: What is your leadership style? What type of leader do you want to become? Tell me about a time when you influenced someone to achieve an outcome. Tell me about a time you led someone without having direct authority over them. Tell me about a time when you had to stop your manager from taking an unethical decision. Tell me about a time when you led a team-members older than you
DIVERSITY: Tell me about a time when had to work with people from different cultures. How did you adapt? What did you learn? Tell me about a time when you ensured inclusivity in your team. Tell me about a time you worked in a global setting. How did you contribute to this team? Tell me about a time when you worked with people different from you.
