An author has accepted two article assignments for different newspapers: 1500 words for Newspaper A and 2000 words for Newspaper B. Newspaper A pays $50 per 500 words, and Newspaper B pays $30 per 400 words. The author usually writes at a constant rate of 400 words per hour, but the unfamiliar topic for Newspaper A will reduce his rate by one-half for that article.

The author will writes 200 words per hour for newspaper A.(Unknown articles)
He have to write 1500 words in total.
He will be able to complete 1500 words in 1500/200 = 7.5 hours.
For 500 words he get 50$,
For 1500 words he will get 1500*50/500 = 150$
He will earn 150$ in 7.5 hours.
He will earn X$ in 1 hour
X = 20$
the author’s hourly wage for newspaper A article is = 20$
The author can write 400 words per hour for newspaper B (No unknown article)
He have to write 2000 words in total.
He will be able to complete 2000 words in 2000/400 = 5 hours.
For 400 words he get 30$,
For 2000 words he will get 2000*30/400 = 150$
He will earn 150$ in 5 hours.
He will earn X$ in 1 hour
X = 30$

and earning $ per word; 50/500 ; 1/10 ; .1
given rate per hour is 200 words
so for 1500 words he would take ; 1500/200; 7.5 hours
net hourly wage per hour ; 200*.1 $20
for newspaper B;
total charges per hour ; 30/400
and for 2000 words at rate of 400 words per hour net time ; 5 hours
wage earned for 1 hour would be 30/400*400 ; 30 $
given total words ; 1500
and earning $ per word; 50/500 ; 1/10 ; .1
