Two water pumps, Pump A and Pump B, are pumping water into a partially filled tank, while a third pump, Pump C, is pumping water out of the tank. When all three pumps begin operating simultaneously, the water level in the tank does not change.

If Pump B operates at a rate of 15 liters per second, select for Rate of Pump A, the rate of Pump A in liters per minute and select for Rate of Pump C, the rate of Pump C in liters per minute that would be jointly consistent with the given information. Make only two selections, one in each column.

Since the water level does not change, the sum of the rates of Pump A and Pump B (inflow) must equal the rate of Pump C (outflow).

Pump B pumps at 15 liters per second = 15 * 60 = 900 liters per minute.

Checking the options:

If Pump A = 960 liters per minute, then Pump C must be 960 + 900 = 1860 liters per minute. Both values are in the answer choices. Bingo — we have our match and no need to check anything else!


Correct answer:

Rate of Pump A "960"
