Statement 1: Volcanic activity playing a major role in shaping the earth's surface - both hypotheses put volcanic activity right in the mechanism. Hypothesis 1 has it as the way a shrinking planet vents material as the crust crumples, and Hypothesis 2 has it directly breaking up the original landmass into the continents we have now. Either theory you pick, volcanic activity is doing real work on the surface. True.
Statement 2: Radioactive decay shaping the earth's surface - this only shows up in Hypothesis 2, where it heats the core and drives the expansion that eventually breaks the crust apart. Hypothesis 1 never brings up radioactive decay at all, it just says the earth is cooling and contracting without explaining why. Since the passage never tells us which hypothesis is correct, and this claim only holds if Hypothesis 2 is right, it isn't something we can call true based on the two passages. False.
Statement 3: Core hotter than the surface - both hypotheses agree on this even though they disagree on almost everything else. Hypothesis 1 has a solid crust with a molten core underneath, Hypothesis 2 has a molten core wrapped in a hard shell. Molten versus solid tells you which one's hotter regardless of which theory turns out to be right. True.
So the pattern here: True, False, True. The move worth remembering for MSR true/false sets like this is checking whether a claim depends on one specific hypothesis being correct or whether it holds under both. If it only survives under one theory, you can't mark it true unless the passage tells you that theory is confirmed.
Statement 2: Radioactive decay shaping the earth's surface - this only shows up in Hypothesis 2, where it heats the core and drives the expansion that eventually breaks the crust apart.
