Is this right reason to say no to statement I ?

Normal precipitation has ties (Jan/Dec, Nov/Feb, Oct/Apr).
Maximum precipitation does not.

Also, the table explicitly says:

The numbers are rounded, so identical numbers may represent slightly different quantities.

but when the values are tied, for Normal precipitation in Jan and Dec, it will give Rank 1 to both but for Maximum precipitation it will be Rank 1 and 2.

Giving different rank thus leading to "No" for question asking - The ranking of the months based on normal precipitation values is the same as the ranking based on maximum precipitation values.

Hi Usernamevisible,

I see exactly what you're doing: you're pointing to the Normal precipitation column, where Jan and Dec are both 30.5 (a tie), while their Maximum precipitation values differ (50.8 vs 48.3), and saying that alone forces different ranks. Bunuel said "No" to this reasoning, and here's why.

The rounding note is what breaks your argument. The table explicitly says the numbers are rounded, so "identical numbers may represent slightly different quantities." That means the Jan/Dec 30.5 tie may not be a real tie at all - the true normal precipitation for those two months could actually differ, and we simply can't tell which is higher. So you can't claim they "both get Rank 1" with certainty. A tie you can't resolve can't be used to prove anything about the ranking.

To answer a False/"No" statement like this, you need one airtight discrepancy that doesn't depend on ambiguous, rounded ties. That's what Bunuel's example gives you:

- By Normal precipitation (lowest up): July 0.8, then Aug 2.0, then June 2.5 - August is 2nd lowest.
- By Maximum precipitation (lowest up): July 6.4, then June 10.2, then Aug 15.1 - August is 3rd lowest.

August and June swap places, and those values (2.0 vs 2.5, 10.2 vs 15.1) are clearly distinct - no tie, no rounding ambiguity. That is a clean counterexample, so the rankings are genuinely not the same. Answer: No.

Quick way to see the trap: suppose two months both read 10 in one column but read 11 and 9 in another. You might want to say the ranks differ - but since the two 10s are rounded, one could truly be 10.4 and the other 9.6, so you don't actually know their order in the first column. That uncertainty is exactly why a tie can't do the proving. Always anchor a "No" on distinct, unambiguous values.
