why is statement 1 marked as " would help explain " ? Indians have a low percent in hiking as compared to picnicking
In this type of question we have to remember that "would help explain" doesn't mean " fully right" or "makes it the highest". we just have to see, if it proves some part here.

the stimulus says that navigating on foot makes it most practical form of transport, so here we have to remember that we are comparing transport and we just have two means here : cycling and hiking, and hiking data is higher than cycling, so in that way table explains some part of the question.

I hope this make sense.

Statement 1: “Indians, living in predominantly warm plains, rush to mountainous areas to spend holidays, where navigating terrains on foot is more practical and pleasurable than any other means of transport.”
Answer: Would help explain
Why: India shows low overall participation, but:
• Hiking (10%) is higher than cycling (8%) and fishing (5%)
The statement gives a geographic + behavioral reason:
• Hiking fits mountain holidays better than cycling or fishing
This plausibly explains why hiking is relatively preferred within India’s profile.

Statement 2: “Of the countries/regions in the table, Mexico has the fewest accessible rivers per capita.”
Answer: Would not help explain
Why: Fishing participation in Mexico (8%) is:
• Not the lowest (India is 5%, Vietnam 6%)
Even if Mexico had fewer rivers:
• The fishing rate is not uniquely low
• No clear anomaly needs explanation
The statement does not explain any distinctive pattern in the table.

Statement 3: “A greater proportion of people in the majority of the countries/regions prefer being away from the hustle and bustle of urban environments and fostering a sense of community.”
Answer: Would help explain
Why: Across most countries:
• Picnicking is consistently high (15%–30%)
• Often higher than cycling and fishing
The statement explains a cross-country trend:
• Picnicking aligns with relaxation, community, and non-urban settings
This is a broad motivational explanation for a visible pattern.

Official Right Answer Explanation / Suggested Answer :

Statement 1: This would help explain why hiking is more popular in India than cycling.

Statement 2: This would not help explain why Mexico has a lower proportion of its population engaged in fishing compared to other countries/regions. Two additional countries—India and Vietnam—also have a percentage of their population engaged in fishing that is lower than that of Mexico.

Statement 3: This would help explain why picnicking is popular in all the countries/regions mentioned in the table except in Canada, where it is surpassed by hiking. The cue "regardless of age and fitness levels" is sufficient to indicate that we need to examine the data for picnicking.
