Official Explanation
As depicted, Ed’s friends might live close to each other or even be neighbors, which would make the perimeter much less than 45 miles. On the other hand, in the diagram, the three friends live nearly 20 miles from Ed and much more than 20 miles from each other. This would make the perimeter greater than \(3 × 20 = 60 > 45,\) and (D) is correct.
