This is a relatively simple ratio problem, make sure you get the units right. To do this you need to know that there are 100 cents in a dollar and 12 inches in a foot.
price/weight : 3 dollars/8 feet = 300 cents/96 inches = x cents/16 inches
Now cross-multiply and solve:
\(96x = 4,800 ⇒ x = 50\)
