The price of a company's stock is increasing by x% from 1993 to 1994 and also is increasing by y% from 1994 to 1995. What is the increasing percent of the price of the company's stocks from 1993 to 1995?
(1) x+y = 300
(2) (1+x/100)(1+y/100) = 1.0035
(1) x+y = 300
(2) (1+x/100)(1+y/100) = 1.0035

let the price at 1993= z
therefore price at 1994=z+xz/100=z(1+x/100)
price at 1995= z+xz/100 + y/100(z+xz/100)
=z(1+x/100)(1+y/100)---------- 1)
st.1 x+y=100. clearly not sufficient as for different values of x and y, we will get different solutions
st.2
substituting the value of (1+x/100)(1+y/100) in 1) we will get price at 1995= z(1.0035). which is sufficient to calculate increasing percent of price from 1994 to 1995

This is a poorly written GMAT question. What is an "increasing percent"? You will not see this phrase on an official GMAT question. This is conceptually based on the following official GMAT question that I have attached with this post. As I always suggest, if possible practice with official GMAT questions because you will learn the proper language of how GMAT phrases the questions so that when you are in the real exam you see familiar phrases.
