Target question: What is the ratio of n to p?
In other words, what is the value of n/p?
Given: n and p are positive integers
Statement 1: n – p = –4
There are several values of n and p that satisfy statement 1. Here are two:
Case a: n = 1 and p = 5, in which case n/p = 1/5
Case b: n = 2 and p = 6, in which case n/p = 2/6 = 1/3
Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: n³/p³ = 27
n³/p³ = 27
So, (n/p)³ = 3³
So, n/p = 3
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is SUFFICIENT
