Since x and y are consecutive integers and x < y, we can take y= x+1

(1) x+y = 7 OR x+x+1=7. This gives us single value of x as 3. Sufficient.

(2) xy = 12 OR x(x+1) = 12 OR x^2 + x - 12 = 0 OR (x-3)(x+4) = 12. This gives us two values of x as 3 and -4. Not sufficient.
