If x, y, and z are the lengths of three sides of a triangle, is z > 8?
(1) x + y = 8
(2) x = 6

(2) x = 6

There is a triangle inequality property which states that:
Sum of any two sides of a triangle is always greater than the third side
Difference of any two sides of a triangle is always lesser than the third side
Statement 1
Using triangle inequality here, sum of two sides, x+y = 8, so the third side z will be < 8.
Thus z cannot be > 8. We got NO as an answer to the question asked. Sufficient.
Statement 2
x = 6, but this will not be sufficient to say anything about other two sides.
Hence A answer
