Given:
• xy ≠ 0, therefore, x ≠ 0 and y ≠ 0
To find:
• what is the value of \(\frac{x}{y}\)
Analysing Statement 1
• As per the information given in Statement 1, xy = 3\(x^2\)
- o Or, xy – 3\(x^2\) = 0
- Or, x (y – 3x) = 0
- As x ≠ 0, y – 3x = 0
- Or, 3x = y
- Or, \(\frac{x}{y} = \frac{1}{3}\)
• Hence, Statement 1 is sufficient to answer
Analysing Statement 2
• As per the information given in Statement 2, The ratio of \(\frac{x}{4}\) to 2y is 1 to 24
- o Or, (x/4)/2y = \(\frac{1}{24}\)
- Or, \(\frac{x}{y} * \frac{1}{8} = \frac{1}{24}\)
- Or, \(\frac{x}{y} = \frac{1}{3}\)
• Hence, Statement 2 is sufficient to answer
Hence, the correct answer is Option D.
