Given:
- • The value of x is greater than y
• The variable x is an integer
To find:
- • The value of x
Analysing Statement 1
- • As per the information provided in statement 1, x + y = 24
- o From this statement, we cannot find out any specific value of x and y, even if x > y
o For example, x = 19, y =5 or x = 17, y = 7
Hence, statement 1 is not sufficient to answer
Analysing Statement 2
- • As per the information provided in statement 2, both x and y are prime
- o From this statement, we cannot find out any specific value of x and y as they can be any prime number
o For example, x = 19, y =5 or x = 17, y = 7
Hence, statement 2 is not sufficient to answer
Combining Both Statements
If we consider the information given in both statements, we can write
- • x + y = 24 and both x and y are prime numbers
- o Even considering both, we can have multiple cases like x = 19, y =5 or x = 17, y = 7
Therefore, we cannot get a unique value for x
Hence, the correct answer is option E.

statement 1: x+y=24, several combinations are possible.
statement 2: it's doesn't make any sense to answer this question. here also thousands of combinations are possible.
Combining (1+2):
we know x+y = 24 and and x and y are prime. So, we can add different primes below 24 and check the possibility. but we won't get unique value of x . suppose, 19+5 = 24 but 17+7 = 24. we don't know either 17 or 19 is the value of x.
Thus, the best answer is E.
