If y = 4, what is the value of 2x + 7y ?

Given,
y = 4.
we need to find out the value of 2x + 7 y.
Statement 1:
x + 3y = 2
x + 3*4 = 2
x = 2 - 12
x = - 10.
we have the values of both x and y.
Sufficient.
Statement 2:
2x + 5y = 0
2x + 5*4 = 0
2x = -20
x = -10.
y = 4.
just substitute the value of x and y in targeted expression.
D is the correct answer.

Given:
- • The value of y = 4
To find:
- • The value of the expression 2x + 7y
Analysing Statement 1
As per the information given in statement 1, x + 3y = 2
Now, we can write the given expression 2x + 7y in the following way:
- • 2x + 7y
= 2x + 6y + y
= 2 (x + 3y) + y
= 2 x 2 + 4
Hence, statement 1 is sufficient to answer the question.
Analysing Statement 2
As per the information given in statement 2, 2x + 5y = 0
Now, we can write the given expression 2x + 7y in the following way:
- • 2x + 7y
= 2x + 5y + 2y
= 0 + 2 x 4
Hence, statement 2 is sufficient to answer the question.
Hence, the correct answer is option D.
