What is the value of x ?
(1) x(x − 1) = 12
(2) x(x + 6) = −9
(1) x(x − 1) = 12
(2) x(x + 6) = −9

Statement 1: x(x − 1) = 12.
\(x^2 - x - 12 = 0\)
( x - 4 ) ( x + 3) = 0
x = 4 or x = -3.
Statement 2: x( x + 6) = -9.
\(x^2 + 6x + 9 = 0\)
(x + 30 ( x + 3) = 0
x= -3.
Thus , B is the correct answer.
