86 people attended the screening of a movie. If the number of males liking the movie was less than the number of females liking the movies, how many people liked the movie?
(1) The ratio of the number of males who liked the movie to the number of males who did not like the movie is 3:4
(2) The ratio of the number of females who liked the movie to the number of females who did not like the movie is 4:1
Ratio of Male who like to dislike : 3x:4x
Ratio of Female who like to dislike : 4y:y
7x+5y=86
Once you reach here, you should be suspicious and try to find out a unique solution to this equation. Turns out x=8 and y=5 works.
You can complete the 2*2 table of Male,Female,Like, and Dislike and answer the question.
Hence C
I believe x=3 and y=13 also fits here. So, how can the above solution be unique ? I selected E because there were two possible solutions. Please help!
