Statement 1: With the rule, you could calculate every term in the sequence exactly. For instance, the first term is 2(1) + 1 = 3, the second term is 2(2) + 1 = 5, and so on. However, you shouldn't actually bother doing this calculation. As long as you know you could calculate it, then you know you could find the difference, and the statement is sufficient.
Statement 2: Without knowing the fifth term, this doesn't help you find the difference. Insufficient.

If the mth term is 2m+1, the 6th term cannot be 81 (it would be 13), so the two statements cannot simultaneously be true. That can never happen in a real GMAT question. I wouldn't use questions from a source that doesn't even observe that basic feature of GMAT question design. Where is the question from?
