What is 4x^2 ?
(1) |2x – 2| + |2x + 2| = 4
(2) |3x – 1| + |3x + 1| = 6
(1) |2x – 2| + |2x + 2| = 4
(2) |3x – 1| + |3x + 1| = 6

Q: What is 4x^2 ?
#1:
|2x – 2| + |2x + 2| = 4
|x-1|+|x+1| =2
-1<=x<=1
NOT SUFFICIENT
#2:
|3x – 1| + |3x + 1| = 6
\(|x-\frac{1}{3}| + |x+\frac{1}{3}| = 2\)
x=1 or x = -1
=> x^2 = 1
=> 4x^2 = 4
SUFFICIENT

What is 4x^2?
Statement 1:
|2x-2|+|2x+2|=4
Solving this equation yields the solution of x=-1 and x=1.
4(-1)^2=4(1)^2=4. Hence sufficient.
Statement 2:
|3x-1|+|3x+1|=6
Solving this equation also yields a solution of x=-1 and x=1. As seen already, x=1 and x=-1 yields 4 for 4x^2. Hence this statement is also sufficient.
Answer therefore is D.
