Statement 1: x>5
Since the sum of x and y is 5, y has to be less than 0.
Sufficient.
Statement 2: y<5.
y = 3
x = 2
or
y = -5
x = 10
So, NOT sufficient .
A is the correct answer.

Yes, this addresses the question.

This information can mean either that y<0 or that y ranges from 0 to 5. We are not certain which y is of interest.
