Statement 1 tells us nothing about y, and Statement 2 tells us nothing about x, so the answer is C or E.
Using both Statements, if x < b from Statement 1 and b < y from Statement 2, then, stringing those inequalities together, x < b < y, and x < y is true, so the answer is C.
