Solution:
Pre Analysis:
- We are given that x is a positive integer
- We are asked if \(x>1\) or not
- This is a Yes-No question
Statement 1: \(1 > \frac{1}{x}\)
- Since we know that x is a positive integer, we can multiple x both sides without worrying about the sign change
- So, \(1 > \frac{1}{x}\) becomes \(x>1\) which is exactly what the question is asking us
- Thus, statement 1 alone is sufficient and we can eliminate options B, C and E
Statement 2: \(-\frac{1}{x} > -1\)
- Firstly, we can remove the negative sign and write \(\frac{1}{x} < 1\)
- Now, same as in statement 1, we can multiply x both sides and write \(x>1\)
- Thus, statement 2 alone is also sufficient
Hence the right answer is Option D
