Question: What is the value of the greatest common divisor of a and b ?
Statement 1
(1) a is divisible by 15.
Therefore we can represent a as
a = 15 * p
p is the quotient when a is divided by 15.
We don't know what the value of b is, hence the statement is not sufficient. We can eliminate A and D.
Statement 2
(2) b=2a
Well this tells us the GCD of (b, a) = a. But we don't know the exact value of a. Hence the statement is not sufficient.
Combined
The statements combined is not sufficient as well as the value of a is not known.
