Pre Analysis:
- We are asked if \(a>b\) or not
- This is a YES-NO question
Statement 1: \(a^2 > b^2\)
- Let \(a=-5\) and \(b=-2\)
- \(a^2 > b^2\) and \(a<b\)
- Let \(a=5\) and \(b=2\)
- \(a^2 > b^2\) and \(a>b\)
- Thus, statement 1 alone is not sufficient and we can eliminate options A and D
Statement 2: \(ab > 0\)
- \(ab > 0\) means that a and b will either be both positive or both negative
- We can use the same two examples as in statement 1
- Thus, statement 2 alone is also not sufficient
Combining:
- We can use the same two examples as in statement 1
Hence the right answer is Option E
