x^3 - y^3 = 0
ie (x - y)(x^2 + xy + y^2) = 0.
Therefore questions asks if x = y or x^2 + xy + y^2 = 0.
Statement (1) tells us that xy < 0, which means that x and y have opposite signs.
This means that x cannot equal y, so this statement is sufficient
Statement (2) tells us that x - y = 11. This means that x is not equal to y, so this statement is sufficient to answer the question.

x and y should have the same magnitude and the same sign to be equal.
(1) \(xy < 0\)
x and y do not have the same sign. Sufficient as the condition that we are looking for is a AND condition. The magnitude and the sign both need to be equal.
(2) \(x - y = 11\)
The magnitude of x and y are not same. The value of x is greater than the value of y.
Sufficient as the condition that we are looking for is a AND condition. The magnitude and the sign both need to be equal.
