Took the test today, made a mess of Quant-Profile Evaluation

Question

I took the test today and made a mess of Quant. I got a 640, Q 42 V 36. Verbal was as expected - did not deviate much from my GMATPrep scores but quant simply came down 7-8 points. I have scored consistently 720 in my last three practice tests. While I did not find the level of quant questions any different than that of the GMATPrep, I simply wasted too much time on a few questions and then panicked during quant. I am aiming for part-time MBA programs (McCombs, Booth, Ross, Stern, and Kellogg), however, it seems even that would be difficult with these scores. I am planning to take the test again at the end of May. What are your suggestions?

I think you have a good shot at all of those schools b/c part time programs are generally less competative to get into. Even with that GMAT, you probably have at least a shot at all programs listed. If you could push that to a 690+ you'd have a great shot. I would recommend a retake, and be prepared for round 1 applications next year. As long as the rest of your application is up to par, you should be fine. Plus, with higher test scores under your belt, it just looks like you had some timing issues. Timing is crucial, and could easily kill your quant score. Work on timing, and you should be able to increase your score into the desired range.

I agree if you have time to retake especially with the scores you were getting on the practice tests you owe it to yourself to give it another shot, could lead to an admit to your top choice and maybe scholarship money that would not have been on the table with the lower score.

PArt time programs don't require high 600 scores for most programs, including those you listed and most of the Top 10 part time programs, with the exception of Chicago/Kellogg/Berkeley/UCLA. Still, I'd give the test one more shot and take it from there.

I think that you should retake because you practice score is much higher than your real score. Can you elaborate more on your preparation plan so that we can give you more comment?

I know many executive MBA programs don't require the GMAT, but the part time programs generally will require the GMAT or the GRE, right? I don't see a Top 10 part time program making any test optional.

I was at a info session on wed and this is what they said. Apparently if you undergrad GPA is high enough they would be able to evaluate if you are going to be able to handle the course load. Anyways, worth a quick call to their admin office and getting some feedback.
