Hi everyone,
I took the GMAT and scored 620 which was the same score I got on my last test a month ago. The split is as follows:
Nov. 3 620 Q39 42% V37 83%
Dec. 6 620 Q44 57% V31 61%
my Quant score is much better than last time but my verbal score went down. I feel encouraged to retake the test in a month or so. I need advice on what should I work on for my next exam but first I want to try to explain the score differences. When I took my first exam I had to guess the last few questions of the verbal section since I had around 2 minutes left for five questions. I ended up guessing all five. So I decided this time to blindly guess the longest of the RC passages and time was just enough with few seconds remaining when I finished the last question. After the first test, I thought I could improve my quant so I concentrated on FDPs which is my main weakness and I mainly practiced quant. I doubt that I can significantly improve my speed in verbal but would really appreciate your advice here.

sounds like you do need to improve your speed in the verbal. My personal advice is to not bother writing anything down or even touching the pen when reading the passages because you could summarize the entire passage but the questions could be totally unrelated to what you wrote down. I always just read the passage no matter how long or confusing it seems then read the question and answer it, going back to the text to identify which section is relevant. I always scored very high on the verbal though so that could be bad advice. For SC, I'd read it and usually the problem would pop out immediately, allowing me to narrow down the selections that focus on that problem.
My other piece of advice is that quant is much easier to improve than verbal but to improve my quant I just did more questions to get used to the types and for verbal I'd just do more questions as well. In the OG the explanations for verbal were pretty confusing so I didn't even really bother with them, particularly the SC explanations.

Before I can offer any advice, I'd like to know a bit more about your studies so far and your overall timeline/goals:
1) How long have you been studying?
2) What resources have you used?
3) What is your goal score?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
5) Do you know which Schools you plan to apply to?
Pacing problems don't exist on their own - they're the result of OTHER problems. To improve everything (scoring, pacing, etc.) in the Verbal section, you'll need to learn (and properly practice) some new Verbal tactics.
