I was speaking with a PR tutor yesterday who gave me some valuable insight into the GMAT scoring. Wanted to share.
She mentioned that during her last GMAT, her objective was to determine the importance of the first 12 questions on each section. What she did was to answer the first 12 correctly (she is typically a 780 scorer) and then alternate the remaining questions by answering one correctly and intentionally answering the next wrong. After doing this, she ended up with a 720.
This really illustrates the huge significance of the first 12 questions.

Thats amazing. There is someone else who said that they missed the first math q and two of the first three verbal q and still got a 720 on the pp practice.
I guess this means that if you get the first questions correct its harder for the computer to lower your score. If you get the first quesions wrong, you can still make it up by getting most of the remaining questions correct.

Yes. I got the first one wrong on quant and the second and third wrong on verbal. I ended up with 4 nonexperimental quant questions wrong and 5 nonexperimental verbal questions wrong and ended up with a 740 total (Q49 V42).
