i got 6 in AWA lately....i just want to know how frequently test takers get this score....is it commonplace?

Me too twice (I 'retook'...is that correct grammar?). Im not sure how much it counts though... Does getting a 6 get noticed even if the AWA score is otherwise ignored?

Unfortunately AWA scores are immaterial to the app process. Almost all US colleges don't even look at it unless one has scored 2.0 or 3.0
I guess. AWA in GMAT is a futile exercise, adding 1 hr to an already long test. AWA showing up at the beginning of the test unnecessarily makes the test takers tired before the actual show.

A 6.0 is roughly the 96th percentile.

The AWA score is clearly not the most important component of your application. However, it is important to remember that it is generally the only written portion of your application that schools can be reasonably certain is the work of the applicant alone. A few schools have established minimum scores and a low score is an indicator of communication risk.
