Hello everyone,
I have been a quiet member of the club since the last couple of months. First of all I would like to acknowledge the tremendous help this forum has been to me. I would read people's experiences with the exam and made a best guess as to what this exam really tests. Fact is that the exam really does not focus on content. Content cannot be mastered for the GMAT but practicing content helps build confidence. The questions on the GMAT are quite simple but the aim for each question is to get you stressed out. And trust me, under stressful conditions even simple problems can take a long time to solve. It took me 1 min to calculate 18 times 7 in one of the questions.
I came into the test early and to destress flirted with this girl who was giving me smiles. I did get her number so will call her later tonight. But the point is that get relaxed before the exam. Take it easy and chill out the day before the exam. This morning I played a word game on yahoo games to get my mind warmed up and thinking creatively.
My first attempt at the test was 2 months back and I scored a 610. Dissapointed but not disheartened I put in some serious effort into preparation. I used the Kaplan course and scored over 700's in all their practice exams.
Here is my 2 cents. Gmat is more about dealing with stress and working under exam conditions than learning test material. So chill out and once you have mastered the material focus on getting yourself destressed and confident about the exam. Stay on target during the exam and fight it out with the GMAT. It really is that simple.
