I took the GMAT in March and scored a 700 (46 quant, 40 verbal). Disappointed with my score, I retook it a month later but scored markedly lower (pretty bad day).

Should I even bother taking the test a third and final time? I have scored better on practice tests (as high as 730). I hope to gain admission to a top 5 MBA program. Would 3 attempts look bad to admissions committees or do they only take your highest score?

I think the schools take the highest score in the last 5 years. So u do not really need to take the test.

do you think those 30 points will really play a crucial role in your app ? it all depends if the work is worth the return ? i got a 700 also im sure i cant do 20 30 points better but its just not worth the extra prep ... i think you should consider your other strength and then deduce from that. Is you gpa strong ? and what about that work experience can you show yourself through that ? 700 is 93rd %tile that’s great ! forget the gmat focus on the NEXT step ... living in the past is pointless

I agree with the others. Business schools will consider your higher score, the 700, which a a score good enough for every school. I really don't think that a score of 730 or higher indicates that one can perform better in a Business Course than someone with a 700 score. My advice would be to focus on other aspects of your apps.

I agree with Goreg; the schools usually look at a range. To most schools, your 700 and my 730 would be about the same in general terms. If the rest of your application is solid, you're good to go with a 700.

For the record, my test scores went as high as 760, but I don't think I want to roll the dice. I am working on getting ready for school, because the score is good enough for what I need.

As others have said. Take the effort you would put into studying for the GMAT again and focus it towards your essays. 700 puts you squarely in the average for every top program.

Actually I wud say 700 is really good. I ended up with 690.. :( Wud have prefered to be in the 700 club! U shud consider urself good and focus on the rest of the application.
