How many score 800?

Just wondering, does the ETS or now Pearson release the number of 800 scorers per year? just wondering how many actually do that?

not very many for sure... and this should not bother neither you nor anybody who wants to score well... it sure can provide some entertainment to be brave and claim that "I got 800", but there is no way to verify this... so don't worry, cause you'll never know the truth unless you achieve it yourself :cry:

I remember reading that it's 1 in like 13,500 I think. So if 200,000 people take the GMAT every year, that means between 10-20 people probably get an 800 each year.

I think that estimate is about correct. I actually thought about this for a while, and I think that between 750 & 800, each 10 points drops off about 1/2 or more of the people from each level.

We know that 750 is 99% which out of 200,000 that take the test each year is about 2000 people. So, tell me what you think of the following estimates:

750 ~ 2000 people per year
760 ~ 1000
770 ~ 400-500
780 ~ 175-200
790 ~ 50-60
800 ~ 10-20

On the various boards, I have seen a number of 750 & 760, but very very few 780+.

My GMAT score report says "sample size of 657,173" ... Anyone know how far back this might go? Just curious.

I tried to model it based on the known percentages and scores (i.e. a 730 is X%), building a log trend around the curve - throwing out data points below 530, .... I had to tweak stuff a bit cause the trend originally suggested 0 people. It's not particularly accurate of course, but for the sake of it,, I came up with a confidence interval of 9 to 14 people a year.

Suffice to say, whatever it is, its not many.

What IS scary is figuring out how much MONEY is blown on the gmat per year....
