GMATprep results vs. the real McCoy

Question

I know it's tough to handicap this stuff, but has anyone taken the real GMAT recently? How did you find it compared to the GMATprep tests? I pulled a 770 last night on my GMATprep 2 test - 48 Q, 46 V, but I did recognize some of the quant questions, so I am sure the score is inflated. Verbal was almost completely new stuff. I realize it's a bit like asking you to look into a crystal ball...but still, would welcome your thoughts.

I gave GMATPrep 6-8 times and I got a range of scores from 660 to 790 with the scores progressively getting better. My actual score was 730. If you are appearing GMATPrep the first time then your score is usually a cloose reflection of your actual GMAT score, but if you have given a few times like I did then the GMATPrep test scores might be 30 points more than what you might end up getting in the actual test.

I think a 770 on any reputable cat is a great score.

I got 730 and 770 on the two prep tests and got a 740 on the real thing. I know I could have done better if I had taken it a few weeks earlier. I became too busy to study for the few weeks leading up to the test and think that hurt me a little. 

I would say +/- 30 pts is what you can expect, even with a little help from knowing a few quant questions.

From personal experience its a great indicator of your score. I would agree with +/- 30 pts or so. I scored 740 on GMATPrep 1, with 7 repeat questions from my first try at it 2 months earlier with no study time. Then on the second GMATPrep, which I had not taken yet, I scored another 740. This was only 2 days before my test day, and I scored a 760. That's just me, but to me, the numbers are very close.

And how does powerprep compare?
Did you guys also take that?

Is that also a +- 30 points? I think the quant on powerprep is very easy..

GMATPrep #1 with no study= 610 GMATPrep #2 with 2wk study= 690 Real GMAT = 590 :oops:

Hey man, don't worry about, believe in yourself and keep your head up! You probably need a little more studying.

I have taken the MGMAT CAT twice, first time 580(41Q/30V) and two weeks later after rigorous study, 590(39Q/33V). I am a little disappointed to say the least.
