HI!

After preparing for 2 months, I just took my GMAT today and scored a meagre 640.

I had been scoring 700 on the MGMAT CAT's and got a 680 on the last GMAT Prep.

Anyways, My target schools are MSU, rice, kelley and Ohio State.

I really dunno what to do now.................................................

I feel really stupid at my effort on the real deal.

I got a 93 percentile on Verbal and a low 52 percentile on Quanton the GMAT.My average Quant score was 42 in the CAT's.

I am wondering whether I should re-take the GMAT.Right now its all a blur.

I need some expert advice......

Sorry to hear you're disappointed with the score. I haven't taken the test yet but my prep scores are similar to yours.

What do you think threw you off during the test? How were you feeling about the math section as you were doing it? Did you have timing issues, were the questions unusual and/or unusually difficult? Were there any quant topics that you didn't expect?

Also, what did you use to prepare for the past two months? What was your study regimen and what materials did you use? What were your CAT scores before you started studying?

Ashish:

Do not feel disappointed. Many students are decent (if not good) at Math and you are no exception I feel. Improving in Quant is easier than in Verbal. Believe me. You can do it.

Keep you chin up and face the challenge! All the best...

Your Verbal looks good.
Don't give up.....

I agree with trivikram, 'Improving in Quant is easier than in Verbal'.

Practice more and see what could be the reason for your low score in Quant.
Were you not able to solve few problems and made guesses, or did you do some silly mistakes.

In both cases, you need to do more practice with more care.

Try again!

Quant is good, but appears to have some gaps. Maybe u need to learn or refresh urself on some of the basics.

MGMAT books are pretty good at this.

Challenges are awsome, but I don't know if they would be good for u at ur current level.

My 2 cents is to review basics using MGMAT books or something similar.

Once ur quant is up to 46+ then try ur hand at the challenges.

Your total focus right now should be lifting ur quant score to at least a 46.

When I began studying for the GMAT I believed that I could never get the quant score that I wanted. But with a lot of practice, it can be done.

Most GMAT problems are very very easy once they are broken down. The key is understanding the underlying principles, and practicing those. If you have time I suggest getting a high school Algebra book and going through it. Here you will re-learn a lot of concepts in depth. The MGMAT books are good, but focus so much on GMAT problems that you might not really get at the underlying principles.

Keep a log of every problem you missed and go over them as often as possible. Eventually you get the hang of it. Do every single OG problem, over and over. Think of the GMAT as a marathon you have to run. You have inside of you everything you need, but without rigorous training, you are not going to make it. Be really consistent with the time you spend on the exam.
