All hope is lost

Question

I took the GMAT today. I did terribly (370). It's my third time taking it. I don't know what i'm doing wrong. I felt very comfortable with most of the questions (i guess that's how they get you). I'm kinda losing hope. This is very very depressing. Makes me want to just give up my hopes for going to grad school, funny i feel this way at 23. I would give anything to even break 500 at this point. I now see why some people give up hope. Thanks to everyone who responded to my (stupid) questions in the Math section. God bless.

While I certainly understand your current depression, with all due respect, 23 is a bit young to abandon hope... how have you been studying? What sources have you used, and what have your scores been like on the GMATprep tests? Also the Powerpreps - the earlier CATS - how were you doing on those?

i agree with uphillclimb - you really should focus on identifying where your MAJOR weaknesses are and try to eliminate them. It may take a while, but you have time

inwosu - do not lose hope. I am in a similar situation. When I first took the test I scored a 410. I decided to take Princeton Review courses (Their strategies later became my downfall) and by the final class I was in the mid 500's on the CAT's. I needed to be in the 600's to get into my school of choice. When I got to the second attempt I had scored 380. I'm 30 years old and I felt like a complete loser, failure. . .in the end I saw it as a sign that maybe I should hold off on b-school and pursue some other endeavors. You are only 23, babe. . you have plenty of time. Let it sit for a little while. Clear it out of your head. Eliminate anything negative and then revisit. Try to focus on you weaknesses. Refocus and try it again.

I started out in the low to mid 400s on the practice tests, i bumped it up to the mid 500s about a week ago. I felt very optimistic about doing better. My family told me to take a couple of months off before going back to study. I was more dissapointed in the verbal than the quant. Older people who don't do well have a valid excuse of being out of school for a long time. But i don't understand how much of a let-down i've become to myself due to the fact that my brain is still young and should be very active.

Same story here, scored a 400 on the GMAT and got myself up to the mid 500's on practice tests. I think the key here is to be very solid in the basics, and I mean SOLID! After that, you practice the mid to advanced concepts from several sources and then learn how the test tries to trick you. After that you should be fine. That is my plan to conquer this beast

A good source for quant might be that math bible which is located on https://www.gmathacks.com. Heard great things about it.
