I appeared for the GMAT test first time last year in August and got disguting 450. I thought I could improve it and take it to atleast 600. Studied for about 3 months and decided to appear for the test again last week. It was wrong decision and I paid for it. I only got disappointing 480. V - 20 and M - 37 scaled scores
I need some conselling. Please help and offer me some advice. Please give me reference of some books, material, links etc.. . I wish but can't afford to attend courses like veritas or Manhattan GMAT. Online resource and books are my only option.
I really appreciate some suggestions and help from you Thanks, Akhtar
I know how frustrating it is to see your scores not improving as you would expect. I have been praparing for about 3 months and I get those frustrating feelings on and off. I still have to take the real exam.
I know these classes are expensive, but a friend of mine who scored 720, highly recommended to take a prep class. He took a course with Kaplan.
Although I didn't take the class for the same reason of being expensive, but I think it does have some benefits. Just compare the cost/benefits to evaluate your own situation.
I would agree that a course is the way to go. Save your money and go for it. It would make a huge difference to have help from an instructor. Just make sure you meet the instructor before you sign up to make sure s/he's good. Usually the companies have free strategy sessions where you can take a test and meet the instructors.
Give the OG 11th Edition a shot, and alsot try to buy a few of the manhattan GMAT books, they ahve various books on a few differnt topics, setence correction, word problems and number properties seems to be thier strengths. They run for roughly $25 USD or so.
Honestly, as bad as the GMAT is, if you can familiarize yourself with a few of thier question types you can really boos your score very quickly.
Kaplan is a waste of time.. I didnt benefit a whole lot from it. Just my opinion, there are so many resources out there like MGMAT SC stuff, 1000 SC, OG RC's, GMAT club challenges.. to name a few
Maybe you just had a bad test day. Don't give up. Work on your weak areas and may I suggest the Manhattan Sentence Correction Book. This will help you to boost your verbal abilities.
