Information Required About Math Tests

Question

I have recently started to take the tests. I am consistently scoring near 90%, and finishing all the tests before time. However I am not able to increase my percentile some how, because few questions are always wrong due to some silly mistakes. Do you folks have any idea how to cut short of these silly mistakes?

Moreover if I am getting 90% now then approximately what it will translate to actual GMAT and how much more practice is required for obtaining a 51 in GMAT.

Can you guys also suggest some good practice apart from this forum to improve upon?

Why dont u just do the math section of the GMATPrep to get an idea of your current quant level. I'd suggest that if you're consistently in the 90th percentile in the gmatclub math tests, you're looking good for a 50+ on the real thing.

Take your time. When you move quickly and finish the sections early, you're prone to careless mistakes.

I've been hearing more and more accounts that OG seems to be easier than the quant on the actual GMAT.

The question was for careless errors. OG is the most relevant source for questions most similar to the actual exam.

From my experience, the most difficult quant questions in the OG are at a similar difficulty to the most difficult questions on the actual exam(with the exception of extreme cases); however, you will not see a variety of difficult questions in the OG as you would see with other non-OG sources.

The GMATPrep questions and the Focus questions, which are also former questions, are significantly harder (and I am not scoring 50 or 51) than I have seen in the OG. Are you saying the GMATPrep software isn't representative of the actual exam in difficulty?

MeddlingKid - the real gmat test (and the gmatprep) is adaptive and OG as a book is not. So if you get to a level where you see 49+ level questions in the real test, you'll find your own gmat test experience to be significantly more difficult than the average OG experience. However, if you get put in the 40-48 level, then your gmat test questions will be similar to the questions in the OG. So, if you want a higher score, be prepared for tougher questions. If you are happy with 48 or under then by all means just rely on just the OG.

That makes sense. I am planning to just re-take GMATPrep Quant sections a few times, which will expose me to more difficult questions than OG. Then, I will review my errors from previous OG/QR sets to ensure I'm working through the medium problems, and review my errors from the 5 Club Challenges I took, to ensure I can handle hard ones as they come up. Thank you for the explanation.
