GMAT Scoring is up

Question

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to confirm my belief that the GMAT scoring went up. A read on a forum that someone recently got 710 with a split of 45Q and 44v. Usually, I believe this split would give a 730. Therefore, I don't think a Q45 and V40 is a 700 anymore. I guess more people are taking the exam and are doing extremely well, as a result its now more difficult to score north of 700 on the test.

Any thoughts!

My Q47 and V40 was a 700 in March. And percentiles have indeed shifted down too. It kind of stinks....

I'm curious about this. There's a lot of score information on this and other forums- here you can find, from the last month:

and on beat the gmat, from June or July, there are reports of (Q/V/Overall) scores from recent tests: 
44/40/710
48/39/710

Some of these reports might be in error, but it does appear to me that a 45/40 split would still be a 700, and a 45/44 a 720 or 730.

Well scores are obviously shifting down, but it can be hard to tell how much. Remember that your actual quant and verbal scores are not actual an integer - they are a decimal. So a 40 V could actually be a 39.6 or a 40.4, and so on, and there's no way to know what your actual decimal score was. This is one reason why a 40Q/45V could corresond to two (or more) overall scores. So when considering how a quant/verbal split corresponds to an overall score, it's hard to separate what is due to a shift in scores and what is just due to different decimal values in the quant or verbal scores.

However, here is some concrete evidence: I took my GMAT June 30th. My unofficial score reported listed my 49Q as a 89%-tile. But by the time I got my official score report, 49Q had become an 88%-tile.
