I am currently a first year in one the "Elite" schools (according to the gmatclub cluster). Although I am already a student, I have just learned that the GMAT plays an important role in the recruiting process as well, especially for consulting and I-banking, so I've been considering re-taking the GMAT before december just in time for the recruiting season.

Does anyone have any experience with attempting to do this given the heavy workload in the first year? Any insights?

Hey! I'm actually in one of the "Elite" schools too. According to people in my school, it's not a big deal. If you did well enough to get into a good school, then you should be alright. However, it is true that some employers do look at that. I guess it's just your gauge on whether you think you can do THAT much better.
